Biography

The Norwegian bass-baritone Jørgen Magnus Haslum (b.1993) graduated in the spring of 2021 at the Oslo Academy of the Arts. He began his studies in Bergen at the Grieg Academy and continued in Oslo Academy of the Arts. He then moved to New York to study there for two years.

Haslum has done a number of productions as a freelancer since leaving the Opera Academy. He has recently been in Tampa, Florida, doing Polyphemus in ACIS AND GALATEA. Haslum has now made his debut at the Norwegian Opera and Ballet where he sang Blessing at the world premiere of FRAM.

From the start of his career, Jørgen Magnus has performed with Opera Bergen in roles such as Zuniga in CARMEN, Bethune in I VESPRI SICILIANI, Abimelech in SAMSON ET DALILA, Angelotti in TOSCA, Nourabad in LES PÊCHEURS DE PERLES, Commissario in MADAMA BUTTERFLY, , The Priest in FANGE OG FRI and Marco in GIANNI SCHICCHI.

Jørgen Magnus made his role debut as Figaro in Mozart's LE NOZZE DI FIGARO, Leporello and Masetto in DON GIOVANNI at the Lyric Opera Studio in Weimar in Germany.

During his studies he has played roles such as Frank in DIE FLEDERMAUS, Sprecher in DIE ZAUBERFLÖTE, Publio in LA CLEMENZA DI TOTO and Betto in GIANNI SCHICCHI. Jørgen Magnus also sang Fiorello in IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA during the Bergen International Festival.

He won 2nd prize in the NINA Solo Competition in 2018

He has a special affection for Lieder and has already built a considerable repertoire including songs by Beethoven, Brahms, Grieg, Quilter, Poulenc, Schubert, Schumann and Vaughan Williams.
